Last week I discussed Procrastination as a Guide. This week I’m adding a bit of meat to the discussion by suggesting things that can be done to clear out that which hold you back and move forward to a brighter 2024.
When You Feel Out of Sync:
- Check Your Values: Ask yourself if the task matches what’s important to you. Writing down your thoughts or doing some mindfulness exercises can help.
- Think About Your Goals: If a task always feels wrong, maybe it’s time to change your goals or how you approach them.
- Get Advice: Talk to someone you trust, like a mentor, about why you’re hesitating. They might see things differently.
If You’re Just Too Tired:
- Plan Breaks: Regular breaks are key. Try the Pomodoro Technique: 25 minutes of work, then a 5-minute break.
- Relax: Do things that calm you down, like meditation or yoga. It’s good for beating stress.
- Stay Healthy: Make sure you’re sleeping enough, eating well, and exercising. It keeps your energy up.
When You Don’t Know How:
- Learn More: Figure out what you need to learn and find courses or resources to help.
- Find a Mentor: Someone with more experience can guide you through tricky parts.
- Team Up: Work with others who know more about the parts you’re unsure of.
Dealing With Fear:
- Challenge Your Fears: Change your thoughts about what scares you.
- Take Small Steps: Tackle your fears bit by bit so they feel more manageable.
- Ask for Help: If fear is a big issue, talking to a professional might help.
When You Need to Focus:
- Sort Your Tasks: Use something like the Eisenhower Box to determine what’s urgent and important.
- Set Clear Goals: Decide what you must do each day or week.
- Pass It On: If something’s not critical, see if someone else can do it.
For Creative Blocks:
- Change Your Surroundings: A new place might spark new ideas.
- Try Different Things: Do something you enjoy to express your creativity.
- Let Your Mind Wander: Sometimes, not thinking about it directly lets the best ideas come through.
Before You Rush a Decision:
- Pros and Cons: Write down the good and bad points to help you decide.
- Get Various Opinions: Talk to different people for their thoughts.
- Don’t Rush: Give yourself enough time to think things through.
Using these tips, you can start seeing procrastination as a helpful hint, guiding you towards personal and professional growth.
